The Nebraska Floorlamp is a traditional uplighter style lamp, the alabaster glass on the top houses an ES type lamp that shines its light up onto the ceiling creating the uplight effect.  While other models of uplighter shield the actual globe this model shows the light from the globe through the glass also giving a nice ambient light in the room... not just the light shining up to the ceiling.
